Montrichard

As we approached Montrichard the path down the side of the Cher threatened to disappear but we kept on and it emerged into a road along the side of the river. From here we caught sight of the Chateau, a fortress like structure built on a small hill, raised up so it overlooked the Cher.  Occupants in the past would have been able to observe river traffic and any would be assailants from this elevated position.

We rode into the town, stopped for well earned refreshment in a lovely setting in the main square, pictured above. We relaxed and looked a little anxiously at the clock. It was 3.45 and our half way point only just reached. We decided to take the direct route towards La Haye, cycling up the main road towards Blois until we reached Pontlevoy.  We would then  turned east towards Thenay to pick up the route we had traversed earlier that day.
