Return to La Haye

At first we pedalled with an intensity borne of the concern at the distance we still had to travel. The following day we would see a road sign from Chailles to Montrichard: 28 kilometres.  We went quite a lot further than this since we followed a much more circuitous route.  The first few kilometres were uphill and we had to work very hard to climb out of Montrichard.  When we turned off to Pontlevoy we lingered for a while outside the  picturesque  L‘ Abbaye – which had been converted into a school.

We then moved swiftly eastwards across country towards Thenay and then on to Fougeres, taking the cross country route we had missed earlier in the day. It was very quiet and we saw this lovely secluded farmstead.  When we made it back to our gite Veronique cut us a lettuce to accompany our meal of cooked meats and cheese.  We dismounted wearily but with many great memories of our wonderful journey which was much further than we would have thought we could comfortably manage. We slept soundly that evening.
